
The Application of Mind, Body, Spirit and Nutrition
All living things come in all shapes, sizes and colors. For most, there are only biological, adaptive and physical reasons for such a variety of attributes. For all of us, there are not only biological, adaptive, physical reasons, but emotional reasons as well. These qualities good and/or bad are a reflection of our behavior and response to our environment throughout human existence. It is cumulative and sometimes unfair, but it is what “grants” us the ability to become healthier, wiser and more complete, individually and collectively.
Our biological attributes are pretty much pre-determined by our ancestry and the environment in which they lived. Even though they are “biologically hardwired”, they require nutritional, mental, emotional, spiritual and physical “feeding” to function, adapt and renew properly. Through this understanding and application of mind, body and spirit nutrition, we begin to realize balance, fulfillment, vibrant long lasting health, healthy reproduction, a desirable body and vitality.
Our adaptive qualities can either hurt or help us in our quest to achieve optimum health, well being, fitness and even happy families. Nutrition, physical exercise and mental reflection have a profound effect on how we adapt to physical and emotional stress. Stress, like a thief in the night, indiscriminately robs us of energy limiting our adaptive response and creating poor health and poor relationships. By challenging our body and mind with exercise, feeding our cells with optimal nutrition and then connecting the two with positive reflection and thought we create the resiliency necessary for optimal health, well-being and rewarding relationships.
Our physical attributes can give us an edge, but all of us have the ability to overcome our physical short comings and become the best we can be. It is our physical individuality that, when accepted, challenges us to positively change, endure and improve. With the help of discipline learned, strength gained, sweat poured and health realized from regular exercise and proper nutrition, we begin to understand what we are truly capable of. This awareness liberates us, is contagious and improves our relationship with ourselves and others.
Our emotions are what govern how our adaptive and physical qualities mold and shape who we are and what we will become. For too many of us, our emotions have been “orphaned” just long enough to negatively affect our physical and adaptive qualities. This neglect creates a “set point” with in our bodies that keeps us from becoming all we can be and more. We must regularly feed our spirit with prayer, positive thought and stillness. This allows the link between our mind, body and emotions to bend and twist, but never break.
